The research and teaching of the Department of Polymer Science and Engineering cover the essential elements of polymer science and technology. A student is not only trained to be a competent engineer with a sound background in polymer, but also guided to be a responsible engineer in every aspect. This is a distinct characteristic of our Department, which makes the department different from other ones of the engineering college, whose objective lies mainly in bringing up capable engineers. The Department runs M.S. and Ph.D. programs in two major areas: "polymer synthesis" covers synthesis and characterization of polymers, and "structure and properties of polymers" deals with the structure and properties of polymers as well as processing of polymers.
The departmental programs are designed to develop students for professional careers in polymer research and teaching as well as in the manufacturing industry. The departmental research covers modern aspects of polymers, including polymer synthesis, physics, properties, characterization and processing, with a number of up-dated facilities for graduate study and research. Moreover, advanced technology related to functional polymer, high performance polymer, engineering plastics, etc will be learned.
